Pre-built packages for Python on Mac OS X Packages for Universal Python 2.5.x, Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later Pre-built packages are largely dependent on the version of Python, Mac OS X, and architecture they were built with. There are many possible variations, but the single most supported and recommended combination at present is the Universal Python 2.5, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later on all 32-bit architectures (Intel and PPC). This build does not run in PPC emulation, and reflects the latest stable version of Python. Python 2.4 currently has more packages available, so you may want to put off upgrading to Python 2.5. Installing Python 2.5 over Python 2.4 will make it difficult to use Python 2.4 as framework builds of the same thing do not coexist peacefully. Packages for Universal Python 2.4.x, Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later Pre-built packages are largely dependent on the version of Python, Mac OS X, and architecture they were built with. There are many possible variations, but the single most supported and recommended combination at present is the Universal Python 2.4.4, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later on all 32-bit architectures (Intel and PPC). This build does not run in PPC emulation, and reflects the latest stable version of Python. Packages built for this Python should be compatible with the older PPC only build of Python 2.4.1, or any of the ActiveState Python builds for Mac OS X. It is however recommended that all users upgrade to Universal Python 2.4.4. The older package index containing only PPC packages resides here. This page is segmented by Python version and platform combinations. Packages here may be quite outdated, and their use is only recommended when a universal build is not available. bob@redivi.com |
